150 Years of History
A New Orleans Landmark
On May 1, 1875, St. Roch Market opened as an open-air public market at the corner of St. Roch Avenue and St. Claude Avenue. Originally known as Washington Market, it quickly became the commercial heart of the surrounding neighborhood.
Through 150 years, including WPA-era renovations in the 1930s, devastation from Hurricane Katrina, and a transformative reopening in 2015, the market has endured as a gathering place for small businesses and the community they serve. Today, under the stewardship of Kevin Pedeaux and Market Staples LLC, St. Roch Market continues that tradition with twelve independent vendors representing the full breadth of New Orleans' culinary identity.
